Is this one missing two legs or a different species altogether?

Yes they are in the arachnid kingdom, but as spiders are in the Order Araneae, Daddy Long Legs are in the Order Opiliones and are not spiders.

Fabulous,I love Harvestmen. We used to call them Harvey Spiders as a kid,tho they're neither spiders nor insects.

As a child, it took me a good deal a courage to overcome my fear of the harvestmen, even after I understood their harmless nature. I am sad to say that I generally don't bother to give them more than a passing glance now that they no longer cast my emotions askew. Your image here has shown me how beautiful they can be, with rich patterning on the body, suspended almost magically on their six legs. Boron, thank you for bringing the world photos that remind us that there is more to nature than overcoming our fear of it (especially the wee, crawly things).

that is just creepy even though I have many fond memories of playing with such creatures as a child. I would roll over a piece of wood or something and see lots of them then herd them around like cattle or someothing. Anywho wonderful shot as always.

Thanks for your nice comment on 'Daddy _not a spider_ Long Legs.' Thats a law of nature, when something much bigger than you which doesn't speak your language tries to pick you up, bite it. Goes with the human law that no good deed goes unpunished.

Heh, I got bit by one of these guys once. My sister didn't think they could bite but yeah, apparently they can. I was trying to save it from being squashed by the hose and it bit me.
Crazy, fantastic shot as always =D
